It begins!
Today I did a little free form painting as a warm up and then decided to start a little lake study from a watercolor book I've had for ages. I'm looking forward to doing more practice like this in 2020 to see how doing studies (and probably some Skillshare classes) affect my original compositions and more fully developed pieces for the studio. Also hoping it will help me work a little looser with watercolors. Here is a picture of the super simple first layer of gradient washes.I like how the portion that will be the sky has streaks that look like rain off in the distance. Looking forward to adding more layers when this one is dry. Maybe I'll even post a second shot later today!

Lovely. I like the tiny bits of green at the shore. Also that far off rain wash is cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sheri! I added the first layer of the land a little while ago. It's been fun to do a mini project with some amount of instruction to take some of the mental pressure off and allow me to focus on the techniques I'm using in the painting.
