The Best Laid Plans

This post, oh my goodness. Let's just say I've had some technical difficulties and a good deal of user error. While the post is a day late, the artistic practice was right on time and somewhere in the ether is a blog post that was timely but posted to the wrong place. What a reminder that it is about what we learn along the way.

Here are some shots of the little study I started on Jan 1. While I'm not thrilled with how the foreground turned out, I learned some things that will help with future paintings. It also gave me ideas for new materials I may want to invest in for my practice.

Above, the gradient washes for the landmasses were added. Below, a distant treeline and dark reflections start to give it some definition as a landscape.
I may still come back to the foreground with some goauche (a paint that is a lot like watercolor but can be applied as an opaque medium) or I may just chalk this one up to the learning process.
